Expenses: Up to £100 maximum per week (Depending on individual circumstances & provided receipts)

Qualification: An accredited Level 2 Qualification

Duration: Until March 2011

Placement Description: Local Authority - Parenting Department, Family and Wellbeing Service

Commitment: Flexible volunteering of up to 30 hrs per week / Participation on a Duke of Edinburgh Residential project

Age: 16 - 24 only

Eligibility:

  • All applicants must live in the Richmond Borough
  • Expenses will only be provided on production of valid receipts
  • All volunteers are subject to a Criminal Records Bureau Check

Volunteer Placement Duties:

  • Data inputting & ensuring data information is consistent
  • Assisting staff in diary management – e.g. using Outlook to book meetings & rooms
  • Eventually learning to minute meetings
  • Answering calls, taking messages & dealing with simple queries
  • Assisting with marketing activities within the team – e.g. updating information displays on a daily basis.
  • Assisting with the Parenting Group activities e.g. setting up activities, and moving furniture.
  • Ensuring that resources are correctly stored
  • Basic day to day office maintenance
  • Assist with sessions held within the community as and when needed
  • Creative input into Parenting session resources ie. making display boards, reward charts and fridge magnets
  • Shopping for resources and refreshments

Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people directly & on the telephone
  2. Able to understand & respect the importance of confidentiality within and outside the workplace
  3. Able to work within a team, asking for & giving support as needed
  4. Accurate basic keyboard skills – knowledge of MS Word & Excel, and databases is desirable, or willingness to be trained 
  5. Aware of equality and diversity & health and safety
  6. Prepared to travel within the local area (travel expenses covered)
  7. Good timekeeping
  8. Be willing to attend any training relevant to the role
