Placement Description: Local Authority - Volunteering within a Sports Centre
Commitment: Flexible volunteering of up to 30 hrs per week / Participation on a Duke of Edinburgh Residential project
Age: 16 - 24 only
Eligibility:
- All applicants must live in the Richmond Borough
- Expenses will only be provided on production of valid receipts
- All volunteers are subject to a Criminal Records Bureau Check
Volunteer Placement Duties:
- To assist lead coaches in running courses such as football, dance, trampoline, fencing, badminton and aerobics.
- Assisting in running children’s parties
- Answering calls, taking messages and dealing with simple queries.
- Maintaining paper based attendance records.
- Updating and maintaining databases.
- Learning to plan, prepare, and deliver activity sessions with young people aged 5 – 17, with appropriate support.
- Assisting with marketing activities within each centre, e.g. taking photographs, designing posters and flyers.
- Assisting the department with health & safety inspections and risk assessments
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people directly & on the telephone
- Able to understand & respect the importance of confidentiality within and outside the workplace
- Able to work within a team, asking for & giving support as needed
- Accurate basic keyboard skills – knowledge of MS Word & Excel, and databases is desirable, or willingness to be trained
- Aware of equality and diversity & health and safety
- Prepared to travel within the local area (travel expenses covered)
- Good timekeeping
