Expenses: Up to £100 maximum per week (Depending on individual circumstances & provided receipts)

Qualification: An accredited Level 2 Qualification

Duration: Until March 2011

Placement Description: Local Authority - Volunteering within a Sports Centre

Commitment: Flexible volunteering of up to 30 hrs per week / Participation on a Duke of Edinburgh Residential project

Age: 16 - 24 only

Eligibility:

  • All applicants must live in the Richmond Borough
  • Expenses will only be provided on production of valid receipts
  • All volunteers are subject to a Criminal Records Bureau Check

Volunteer Placement Duties:

  • Supporting general youth opportunities & activities
  •  Helping with the day to day management & maintenance of youth work equipment
  •  Attending & assisting with outdoor events & activities during school holidays e.g. go-karting, ice-skating, rock climbing etc.
  •  Answering calls, taking messages & putting calls through
  •  Reception tasks, meeting & greeting callers
  •  Assisting in developing marketing materials for the service using the PC
  • Assisting in preparing for youth work sessions & collection of data using the PC
  •  Basic administration tasks such as filing, faxing, photocopying & emailing

Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people directly & on the telephone
  2. A keen interest in youth work
  3. Able to understand & respect the importance of confidentiality within and outside the workplace
  4. Able to work within a team, asking for & giving support as needed
  5. Accurate basic keyboard skills – knowledge of MS Word & Excel, and databases is desirable, or willingness to be trained   
  6. Aware of equality and diversity & health and safety
  7. Prepared to travel within the local area (travel expenses covered)
  8. Good timekeeping
