Placement Description: Local Authority - Volunteering within a Sports Centre
Commitment: Flexible volunteering of up to 30 hrs per week / Participation on a Duke of Edinburgh Residential project
Age: 16 - 24 only
Eligibility:
- All applicants must live in the Richmond Borough
- Expenses will only be provided on production of valid receipts
- All volunteers are subject to a Criminal Records Bureau Check
Volunteer Placement Duties:
- Supporting general youth opportunities & activities
- Helping with the day to day management & maintenance of youth work equipment
- Assisting with evening & weekend youth club sessions
- Attending & assisting with outdoor events & activities during school holidays e.g. archery, climbing & basketball etc.
- Assisting in preparing for sessions & collection of data using the PC
- Answering calls, taking messages & putting calls through
- Basic administration tasks such as filing, faxing, photocopying & emailing
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people directly & on the telephone
- A keen interest in youth work & sports activities
- Able to understand & respect the importance of confidentiality within and outside the workplace
- Able to work within a team, asking for & giving support as needed
- Accurate basic keyboard skills – knowledge of MS Word & Excel, and databases is desirable, or willingness to be trained
- Aware of equality and diversity & health and safety
- Prepared to travel within the local area (travel expenses covered)
- Good timekeeping
