Expenses: Up to £100 maximum per week (Depending on individual circumstances & provided receipts)

Qualification: An accredited Level 2 Qualification

Duration: Until March 2011

Placement Description: Local Authority - Youth Centre Team

Commitment: Flexible volunteering of up to 30 hrs per week / Participation on a Duke of Edinburgh Residential project

Age: 16 - 24 only

Eligibility:

  • All applicants must live in the Richmond Borough
  • Expenses will only be provided on production of valid receipts
  • All volunteers are subject to a Criminal Records Bureau Check

Volunteer Placement Duties:

  • Supporting general youth opportunities and activities
  • Promoting youth centre events by accompanying youth worker visits to schools
  • Booking rehearsal rooms using paper and electronic based diaries
  • Eventually answering calls, taking messages and putting calls through
  • Assisting youth workers with developing and offering a range of opportunities to young people
  • Getting more young people involved in club activities including music & sports
  • Basic administrative tasks such as scanning, shredding, faxing, photocopying, and emailing
  • Data inputting of club membership, evaluations etc.
  • Using Outlook to book meetings & rooms
  • Assisting with marketing activities within the team – e.g. designing posters, flyers & newsletters
  • Observing sessions & eventually learning to plan activities for the young people
  • Assisting in meeting & greeting visitors to the youth club

Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Able to learn to communicate effectively with a wide range of people directly & on the telephone
  2. Able to understand & respect the importance of confidentiality within and outside the workplace
  3. Able to work within a team, asking for & giving support as needed
  4. Accurate basic keyboard skills – knowledge of MS Word & Excel, and databases is desirable, or willingness to be trained   
  5. Aware of equality and diversity & health and safety
  6. Prepared to travel within the local area (travel expenses covered)
  7. Good timekeeping
