Placement Description: Local Authority - Targeted Youth Support Volunteer
Commitment: Flexible volunteering of up to 30 hrs per week / Participation on a Duke of Edinburgh Residential project
Age: 16 - 24 only
Eligibility:
- All applicants must live in the Richmond Borough
- Expenses will only be provided on production of valid receipts
- All volunteers are subject to a Criminal Records Bureau Check
Volunteer Placement Duties:
- Supporting volunteering coordinator to recruit, train and support mentors and appropriate adults
- General administration duties – faxing, emailing,etc
- Data entry – keeping database entries up to date
- Contacting volunteers – recording contacts on to a database
- Identifying volunteers to populate the monthly rota for appropriate adults
- Responding to police station requests for appropriate adult support
- Support volunteer coordinator in completing initial assessment with potential mentees
- Support volunteer coordinator to match mentees with mentors using information from application forms
- Assist in creating marketing the scheme to recruit mentees and mentors
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people directly & on the telephone including professionals, parents and young people
- Ability to work as part of a team,
- Able to understand & respect the importance of confidentiality within and outside the workplace
- Able to work within a team, asking for & giving support as needed
- Accurate basic keyboard skills – knowledge of IT systems MS Word & Excel, and databases is desirable, or willingness to be trained
- Aware of equality and diversity & health and safety
- Prepared to travel within the local area (travel expenses covered)
- Good timekeeping
