What is an apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship combines proper work with part time study, allowing you to learn on the job while gaining knowledge, skills, nationally recognised qualifications and money! - all at the same time!
Do I have to go to College?
No, you do not have to attend attend college. The majority of your apprenticeship is delivered to you in the workplace by your desiganted NVQ assessor.
How much time off do I need?
During your first year, you will be required to attend a series of technical certificate workshops based locally at a training office. These workshops are normally betwwen 6 and 8 weeks long, and are scheduled once each week. If you rerquire key skills, then you will also be required to sit two sepearte tests in your first year.
How long will it take?
This depends on what occupational area you are tasked with studying. We give all our learners 1 year from the date you start training to complete the foundation apprenticeship in Business administration. Other occupational areas may take slightly longer depending on the framework requirements and also your level of additional support in numeracy and literacy.
How much will I get paid?
Most Way to Work apprenticeship vacancies, pay a minimum of £150 per week, with pay reviews after 6 months in the job. Many of our central London vacancies command much higher annual salaries of around £10,000. Click here to see a typical example of the Way to Work salary structure for an apprentice.
Am I still entitled to free travel?
No, unfortunately you do not qualify, but if you are under 18 years of age you can apply for a half-price
Oyster Card, which can be used on the tubes and busses.
What if I didn't do well in my GCSE's?
That's not a problem. Way to Work do not require academic qualifications to apply for an apprenticship vacancy. There are no mimimum GCSE requirements, but there are maximum qualification that do prohibit you from being eligible for an apprenticeship through Way to Work. You can not apply, if you have A'Levels, Higher National Diplomas, or a Degree. If in doubt, please contact us, and we will be happy to help.
What are Skills for Life?
Skills for Life involve tests that show that you have reached the required level in literacy and numeracy. If you already have GCSE grade C's in these subjects, you will not have to complete the test for that subject, as long as you have proof that they were gained within the last 5 years. You will also receive a seperate certificate to show that you have passed this test.
Do I need a CV to apply?
You must have an up to date CV before you attend an interview at Way to Work. If you do not have one please see our CV template and resources link on the homepage or visit your local Connexions service.

Am I entitled to free travel?
16+ Oyster cards are available to anyone age 16 or 17 whether they live in any London Borough or not. Details are available on the Transport for London website. These cards enable the holder to travel half price. Apprentices with Way to Work are not entitled to free travel and the application form for half price travel does not therefore have to be stamped by us. Applicants can apply on-line or get a form from a post office. Apprentices do not qualify for an 18+, 30% discount either as apprentices are not doing 12 hours a week guided learning.
