The Staff

All Way to Work staff are employed by The London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames Council and are CRB checked.


Mary Castledine is the Manager of the service, and has 20 years experience, she is qualified to Level 4 in Information, Advice, and Guidance, and provides the team with strategic leadership and support.

Did you know?: Mary swims more than 3 miles a week at Pools on the Park, and likes to walk everywhere. In fact she walks so much she has to re-heel her shoes every month. Mary is also the mum of ex-premiership footballer Stewart Castledine.


Barri Ghai has 8 years experience in the recruitment & training industry and is in charge of operations for the team. Barri also has a Level 4 IAG qualification, is PTLLS trained, and is also a fully qualified NVQ assessor. He is responsible for project management and delivery, the management of staff and recruitment of Way to Work apprentices.

Did you know?: Barri is also a professional ghost hunter. He appears regularly on television and radio and also runs the UK's largest paranormal investigation society. Barri is also an accomplished karate black-belt and a father to four daughters!


Becky Ledger is the Senior Apprentice Administrator for Way to Work. She is working towards her NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration and is responsible for many of the administrative procedures that help keep the service running smoothly.

Did you know?: Becky used to be an excellent gymnast and ice-skater. She came second in the London Championships back in 2003.


Valerie Clark has extensive experience of working for Richmond Council, including managing apprentices.  Valerie is a fully qualified NVQ assessor, and is PTLLS trained.  She is responsible for assessing and supporting apprentices to progress through their qualification. 

Did you know?:  Valerie used to live in Australia and considers Sydney to be her second home.  She also did a day trip to New York as part of her job as a member of the Concorde First team of British Airways. 


Lee Barbieri is a qualified NVQ Assessor with ten years of experience in the field. He also has eight years experience as a qualified Internal Verifier, and has supported learners in Hounslow, Camden, Islington, Richmond and Lambeth boroughs.

Did you know?: Lee's suede coat once starred on Top Of The Pops (on a singer's back!) during his stint as a music promoter in Wandsworth. Lee is also possibly the only person in the UK to have failed his cycling proficiency test at primary school. He continues to show real failings with hand eye coordination..


Holly Newman is the Way to Work Apprentice Training Administrator and started in May 2011. Holly is responsible for the administration of all training related issues and works closely with Barri to ensure that all apprentices are funded correctly and receive the best training to meet their individual learning requirements.

Did you know?: Holly wants to complete her apprenticeship and then train to become a qualified police officer. She also claims to own almost 100 pairs of shoes!

What is Way to Work?

Part of the Childrens’ Services & Culture directorate within London Borough of Richmond upon Thames

Not-for-profit community business receiving funds from the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) and employers (no funding is provided from Richmond Council).

The aim of Way to Work is to provide jobs with training for young people aged 16+ with employers who value young people and encourage them to achieve their potential.

Way to Work is a service operated by the Childrens’ Services & Culture Directorate of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames Council.  Although part of the local authority, Way to Work is free to engage with young people and employers across other parts of the capital.

 

What do we do?

We provide a high quality recruitment service which helps employers recruit suitable young people who are willing to learn.

We provide high quality apprenticeships which develop work skills and prepare young people for career success.

We work hard to improve the quality of our services by evaluating what we provide, asking our customers' views and bringing in expert help.
